Our history

1986
More than a century ago, in the lush forests of Guatemala, a story of tenacity and resilience emerged that gave life to a treasure of the earth: The San Isidro Maldonado Estate.
Founded in 1896 by Félix Maldonado Robles and his lovely wife, Annie Velotte Leland Culley de Maldonado. The farm was named this way in honor of his grandfather, Ysidro de San Rafael Maldonado Morales and Saint Isidore the Labourer, patron saint of farmers, they inspired this name that, over time, became a legacy.

1902
But fate had other plans, and in 1902, a furious roar from the Santa María volcano covered the green coffee plantations with a blanket of ash.
Nature, relentless, forced the family to emigrate to distant lands, specifically to Media, Pennsylvania, in the United States, Grandma Annie's homeland.
However, Grandpa Félix's entrepreneurial spirit knew no limits. In the United States, he dedicated himself to importing Guatemalan coffee and offered it under the bold name of:
“The world’s best coffee”.
Tradition of his lineage
With unparalleled skill, he continued the coffee tradition of his lineage. The years passed, and then, a letter arrived from the beloved farm in Guatemala, a letter that brought:
The coffee plantation had risen from the ashes! The volcanic soil had risen, and Finca San Isidro Maldonado emerged like a miracle, producing the most exquisite coffee ever tasted. The secret of its excellence lay in the original Bourbon, a variety that had endured since the dawn of the estate, with a strictly hard coffee (SHB) without exception, which was its unbreakable distinctive.

Today
This jewel of nature is guarded with love and care by the best work team, and the fourth and fifth generations of its founders. Finca San Isidro Maldonado is not only a place where exceptional coffee is grown, but a corner of history where determination and passion have given life to a true treasure.
It is a tribute to the volcanic land of Guatemala and the perseverance of a family that, against vicissitudes, has kept alive the tradition of producing the best coffee in the world with an astonishing renaissance.
